Network Drive Manager - Effective utility for mapping your network in Windows
Windows stock tools fail to ensure proper network mapping. When you try to connect to a network drive, the system will take its time to connect to it, putting a hold on your work. Network Drive Manager lets you map your network drives and it will keep them connected as long as you need to. It is a straightforward utility and it will run in the background, so it will not get in your way.
The setup kit comes in a 1.82 Mb archive. It will run a standard installation wizard which will not ask for any network configurations. There will be no compatibility issues with any of the popular Windows versions and the system requirements are modest.
The interface is similar to that of other software from the same suite. If you are familiar with the Suncross developed Computer Time Limiter, then you will recognize the interface immediately. Network Drive Manager will create new drives on your computer which will take you immediately to a network folder of your choosing.
Network drives can be created by clicking the Add button on the toolbar. A new window will appear, where you must type a network location (servershare) and assign a name and letter for the new drive. Once created, the network drives will be listed on the main window. A drive can be connected by selecting it in the list and clicking the Connect button on the toolbar or you can connect all of them at once with a Connect All button.
When connected, you will find new drives in Windows Explorer, which act as shortcuts for folders on your local area network. The software will periodically reconnect the network drives. Thus, you can be sure that your drives are available at all times. It is possible to set Network Drive Manager to launch a program automatically when a drive is connected. This can be done under a separate tab, when creating a network drive. All you have to do is browse for an .exe file and add it to a list.
Pros:
Network Drive Manager features a compact and straightforward interface. Network drives can be created in a matter of seconds and they will stay connected as long as you need. The software will work in the background and it will not make use of too many system resources.
Cons:
Folders from a network can only be specified manually, by typing their locations.
If you are not pleased how Windows handles your network, Network Drive Manager will perform much better. When it comes to mapping a network, it will meet all your demands.
